Moon walk

Radio Mast - Constantiaberg

Well, our training schedule is done for the year but who can resist the alure of the full moon. Lion's Head on the full moon is no longer an option - there are so many tourists, it's a bit like walking up Adderley Street on New Year's day. Chris thought it might be nice to do something a bit different so we met at the top of Ou Kaapse Weg and walked up to the radio mast on Constantiaberg. What a wonderful hike, my photographic abilities could not do the sunset over Hout Bay justice though. Of course I had to go and prove how tough I am and performed a spectacular technical sit down with a left twist and roll into the bush - basically I went arse over tit and ended up in the bushes with a sprained ankle.

Genadendal

Overnight Hike - Riviersonderend Conservation Area

The trail is fairly strenuous, leading through private property and traversing the conservation area on both sides of the Riviersonderend mountain range. The trail provides panoramic views of the Overberg as well as the Worcester-Robertson Karoo.

The trail forms a circular route of 25,3 km and takes two days to complete. It begins and ends in Genadendal at the historic Moravian Mission Church which dates back to 1738.

The first day's stretch is 14,3 km (± 8 hours) and leads past two pools at Groot and Klein Koffiegat, ending at Holt's farm "De Hoek" on the north side of the mountain. Thanks Holt and Sandy for the great hospitality.

The following day is 11 km ( ± 7 hours), returning to Genadendal.

Table Mountain - Contour Path

Constantia Nek to Newlands Forest

This realy is a great Sunday morning walk. It is not at all strenuous and is mostly on the level except for one small bit of log stair climbing that is. The walk took us about 3 hours to complete at a gentle stroll. The chap in the white shirt is cousin Larry from the UK who is out visiting for a few weeks.
